Sara McGinty was raised in Westchester County and attended Barnard College, receiving a BA from Columbia University cum laude in 1979. She worked for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the Social Events Department and then attended Benjamin Cardozo School of Law, receiving a JD cum laude in 1984.
Sara spent the first 8 years of her professional career in New York City, first as an associate in the real estate department at Kelley Drye & Warren, representing commercial lenders and not-for-profit corporations. In 1987, Sara joined the real estate department at Sidley & Austin, specializing in commercial leasing.
Sara and her husband Tony moved to Rosendale in 1992. She spent several years practicing real estate law on a limited basis, concentrating on raising their kids, Dean, Alice and Lucy. In 1994, Sara opened a law office on Main Street in Rosendale.
Since then, Sara’s areas of expertise has broadened to include wills and trusts, estate administration, elder law and commercial law. She has also had success as a litigator in Supreme Court, Appellate and Surrogate’s Court matters.
In addition to her private practice, Sara served as Town judge for 8 years and a special prosecutor for 5 years in the Rosendale Town Court. She has served as a hearing officer for the Kingston Housing Authority since 2010.
