Elder Law

Elder Law is a fairly new concept in the practice of law.  It brings together many areas of particular concern to seniors and their families:
  • Planning for incapacity
    • Power of Attorney
    • Health Care Proxy
    • Medicaid planning
  • Transferring business or property to family members
  • Guardianships
  • Trusts
These are subjects that most of us would rather not think about.   But when families have open, informed discussions about these issues, they gain a sense of security and control.

Wills & Trusts

Before you decide to have a will or trust, we will discuss your needs, goals, family andbanner-2 financial circumstances and general health.  I do not believe that “one size fits all” when it comes to planning your estate.  In fact, after learning about the consequences of not having a will, some of my clients conclude that they don’t need one at all.
  • Wills
  • Trusts
    • Supplemental Needs Trusts
    • Revocable or Irrevocable Trusts
    • Life Insurance Trusts
    • Charitable Trusts

Real Estate

For most of my clients, buying or selling their home is the largest single financial transaction they will experience.  Buyers or sellers, it’s no wonder that many of them are anxious.  My goal is to enable my clients to make decisions in an intelligent and informed way. After all, knowledge is power.
I have practiced real estate law since I graduated from law school in 1984.  I worked first at a large firm in New York City, representing developers and lenders and then commercial landlords and tenants. These days my real estate practice consists largely of house closings, but I also can and do represent clients in commercial real estate matters.
  • Sales, leases and purchases
    • Residential
    • Commercial
  • Landlord/tenant matters
  • Boundary line disputes
  • Actions to clear title

Business Transactions

I am ready to assist you in all aspects of your business, from getting you started to the sale of your going business.  It’s important to observe certain formalities when you are doing business through a corporation or limited liability company:  I can help you cross your t’s and dot your i’s to get the job done while protecting you from personal liability.
  • Formation of corporations and limited liability companies
  • Sale or purchase of existing businesses
  • Buy/sell or shareholder’s agreements

Most of my litigation experience lies in will contests and other estate-related matters, but I have also had success in our Town, County and Supreme courts and appeals work.

Town and Village Courts

As a former town judge I have ample experience in our town and village courts including:
  • Landlord/tenant proceedings
  • Small claims
  • Traffic infractions
